The ancient story. Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, first performed in 1689, is inspired by Virgil's account of the myth which follows the burgeoning love of Aeneas, a Trojan prince, and the Queen of Carthage.

New to the Royal Opera House. The Royal Opera presents a new double bill created by Wayne McGregor, The Royal Ballet's resident choreographer. Both productions will unite the performing companies at the Royal Opera House with dancers from The Royal Ballet performing alongside artists from The Royal Opera. Two major Baroque composers are commomorated in this double bill: Henry Purcell born 350 years ago in 1659 and George Frideric Handel who died 250 years ago in 1759. Casting from The Royal Ballet will be announced at a later date.

Production details

New to the Royal Opera House. The Royal Opera presents a new double bill created by Wayne McGregor, The Royal Ballet's resident choreographer.
