Bwystfilod Aflan
Work:: Bwystfilod Aflan (S368493967)
Production:: (T466911829)
Cancelled and reviled in the media, Edward Prosser Rhys's 1924 crown-winning poem, ATGOF, faced a storm of abuse for depictions of lust and a same-sex romance. Bwystfilod Aflan explores these events through a contemporary lens, with an operatic monologue by Conor Mitchell, creator of Abomination: A DUP Opera, performed by tenor Elgan Llyr Thomas; and a personal reflection on the original poem by actor/dancer Eddie Ladd; both created in collaboration with and directed by Jac Ifan Moore. This National Eisteddfod commission with Music Theatre Wales and Aberystwyth University Music Centre, performed with Sinfonia Cymru, challenges societal norms through opera, dance, and film, spotlighting the clash between tradition and the need for change. Performed in Welsh. Captions in English will be available at the performance.
