Amaze Me! - Opera: L'enfant et les sortileges/Ballet: Petrushka

Work:: Amaze Me! (S01347423615)

L'enfant et les sortileges - A little boy, spoiled and badly behaved, is locked into a room to finish his lessons. One by one the household objects come to life and start to rebuke him. The boy is amazed, frightened and finally, sorry, for his earlier cruel actions. Ravel is in his element, mixing sustained lyricism with 1930s jazz, comic parody with the most beautiful pictorial storytelling. Petrusha - Set in a dream-like, folk Russia, the original story of Petrushka takes place in St Petersburg at the annual Fair. A puppet-master presents his tale of a dancing girl and her two admirers, the lowly Petrushka and a dashing Moor.
