Secretos

A performance by Paloma Zozaya So much shapes us from birth. We have many teachers: our parents, the society we were born into, men, women... At some point, we have to make sense of all those lessons, all those wounds and gifts. Our hurts and weaknesses become our strengths, the doors to other worlds and realities. We find signs: loves, friends, poems, stories, and paintings, songs - inspirations and reflections - that help us along the way. I have found the writings of the Chicana poets Sandra Cisneros and Pat Mora and the songs of Liliana Felipe, Chico Buarque, Silvio Rodriguez, at a crucial time of my life: the middle. When I am starting to discover that what I am, what I feel and do is important; and about time too! Their voices echo mine in their deep cries for freedom and wholeness. I am a performance artist. I have woven this one-woman-show with those poignant, tender, humorous, and incisive texts and songs. My show is a collage that mirrors life in a way that it all starts making sense to me; it clarifies and strengthens my link to the women I descend from and even to our forgotten, but ever present, prehispanic goddesses. 'Secretos is an entertaining work of transformation.
