Presented as a one-man show, More Lives Than One is a story of the first modern man. Objectively exploring the man behind the complex fa?ade, the play traces Wilde's life from his student days, early celebrity and marriage through to the aesthetic movement, his homosexuality and relationship with Lord Alfred 'Bosie' Douglas, finally leading to his arrest, trial, imprisonment, exile to France and subsequent death. The performance begins in Paris at the turn of the 20th century, recounting Wilde's death and burial, raising questions of how this Victorian celebrity had been reduced to such a pitiful end. Both his private and public lives are creatively juxtaposed with extracts from his poems, letters, plays and novel to produce a comic yet equally tragic biographical account of his extraordinary life. Born in 1854 into an Anglo-Irish family in Dublin, Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde's rich and dramatic portrayals of the human condition came during the height of the Victorian era that swept through London in the late 19th century. Regarded as one of the greatest playwrights of his time and known for his great wit, Wilde wrote and produced nine plays, yet despite his great talent only wrote one novel during his lifetime: 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'. Several of his plays continue to be widely performed especially, 'The Importance of Being Earnest'.
