Laura

Laura

Work:: Laura (S440565759)

Laura is a debut one woman show written and performed by Elina Alminas. It is an audience interactive performance that combines the elements of stand up and tragicomedy. This is a show about realisation and acceptance, regrets and disappointments, as well as misunderstandings and mistakes that people repeat over and over in their lifetime. The performance tackles the themes of loneliness, the urge to be loved and understood and the need to finally make up to missed opportunities. All of the above in the surreal setting of a failed wedding party - a frenzied bride to be (or not to be?), 80s inspired soundtrack, cake for the guests, antidepressants and a few champagne bottles.

Great energy, the actress is a powerhouse. This is a play about a woman loosing her mind on her wedding day when the groom doesn't arrive. She goes through every emotion possible as she searches for answers. At times painful to watch her spiral to madness, but always fascinating and continuously hilarious. Perfect for a pub theatre after a couple of drinks, I can easily see this going to Edinburgh Festival so would recommend seeing this before the performer becomes famous.
