Sara Crewe shares a life of wonder with her father and mother in exotic India. When her mother dies Sara's father cares for her with great love and devotion until he is called to military service and Sara is sent to an affluent but strict boarding school in New York. To the headmistress Miss Minchin, exuberant Sara is an annoyance and a troublemaker, but Sara overcomes the hardships that come her way and changes both her own life and the fortunes of those around her.
