Topsy-Turvy is hugely enjoyable, not least for the staged chunks of The Mikado, Ida, even The Sorcerer.

Gilbert and Sullivan in the style of [Mike Leigh] sounds more like an out-take from Whose Line Is It Anyway? Than a serious idea for a film, but Leigh s Topsy-Turvy is remarkably fine – and a hop, skip and a jump for him into three entirely new areas: period piece, musical and backstage drama.
