Irish-American director John Ford described The Quiet Man his romantic comedy about a US boxer returning to his Galway roots and spiritual home as 'the sexiest picture ever made'. There's not the slightest naughtiness in the film and its view or Ireland as the most perfect place on God's earth simply goes without saying. So perhaps what Ford meant was all about passion; for life, for love, for what ultimately matters...as Wayne's boxer pursues Maureen O'Hara's tempestuous local lass, whilst her brawling brother refuses to deliver her dowry until the final, uproarious first-fight.
