In 1949 the revered Japanese comic book (manga) artist Osamu Tezuka drew a 'tribute' outline, loosley based on Fritz Lang's seminal 1927 silent film, that provided the graphic basis of this colossal, animated feature film. Using Tezuka's original drawings, yet immersed in 21st Century movie technology, Metropolis tells of the creation of an artificial super-being. Tima, who is destined to control the world. But Tima is estranged from her Fate and becomes the pawn of those who wish to save her and those determined to destroy her. Strange and beautiful, and far from traditional 'anime' (even that found at Studio Ghibili). Metropolis has the h hallmarks of the manga classic that Akira became throughout the world.
