Details

Olivier's first and best outing as a film director shows off Shakespeare's most vividly patriotic play and Olivier's own delight in the magic of cinema. Bursting with fantastic transpositions, from tiny and obvious models of The Globe theatre to the full-on majesty of the Battle of Agincourt with a cast of real thousands, Henry V is an ingenious way to make accessible the glories of the Bard for contemporary audiences. No less so now than in 1945, when it was the UK's top-grossing film. A stirring spectacle, made even more overwhelming by William Walton's triumphal themes.
