Cuba Si! archive50 Years of Cuban Photography. Cuba occupies a special place in the public imagination as a colourful centre of flamboyant energy, vibrant music and political idealism. From pre-revolutionary mid-century Cuba, through the historic revolution itself, to the modern country defiant in its identity, Cuba, Si! depicts the rich variety of the island and its people. Contributors include Alberto Korda, whose iconic image of Che Guevara defined Latin American solidarity, together with Raul Corrale, Tito Alvarez and Constantino Arias whose work goes beyond historical events to record the full impact on the lives of everyday Cubans. Their photographs are complemented by work from a group of award-winning younger artists who came of age in Castro's Cuba. The exhibition features a wealth of powerful images that chart Cuba's history during the last half of the twentieth-century.
