Always spectacular and frequently hugely controversial La Fura dels Baus were last seen in the UK with XXX an exploration of the world of the Marquis de Sade at the Riverside Studios. Internationally they are perhaps best known for their contribution to the opening ceremony of the Barcelona Olympics. Founded in 1979, the company has given over 2500 performance across four continents that have attracted audiences of over 3 million people. For two nights only in July the company's enormous ship Naumon will dock at Spiller's Quay in Newcastle and provide the backdrop for a huge outdoor spectacle entitled NAUMACHIA. NAUMACHIA is a show which includes giant puppets, film projection, live music and band and a huge web from which sixty people hang over the action with additional performers moving amongst the audience. The show is based on the creation of life, and the forces at work in that process. It is performed on a huge scale with 60 aerial acrobats, some of which will be local people trained by Hang, the Newcastle-based aerial dance company. Outdoor performance. Parental guidance required - show contains nudity.
