Production:: 11 (T0243910513)
This week will see the opening of Candlelight Nights 11'. For four Wednesday evenings of the summer everyone is welcome to take part in the candle lighting and enjoy the new entertainment in Bournemouth Lower Gardens. The event is over one hundred years old and this year is a milestone as Bournemouth Tourism have worked with Strawberry Lantern Events adding The Music Zone, The Fire Zone and The Kids Zone. The Kids Zone starts at 6pm where children can do arts and crafts sponsored by Splashdown Water Parks. The Music Zone located at the band stand starts from 7pm with the award winning Funky Little Choir Company followed by the drum beats of Samba Panache then party music from The Blues Brothers. Each night has different music acts including the showcase of The Original Rod Stewart Band on Wednesday 10th August thanks to rock and rollers Jim Cregan and Gary Grainger. The public have the opportunity to meet the band after the event at 10.30pm in The Trouville Hotel, Priory Road to hear stories from the 'good old days'. The traditional candle lighting will take place at dusk plus street art entertainment and fire shows from Simon Chainey and friends in The Fire Zone. Event organiser, Suzy Wheeler comments "This is a historical event for Bournemouth that attracts thousands of people over the summer. The team have been busy refurbishing the frames and adding creative entertainment to produce such a magical evening. We are delighted to work with Bournemouth Tourism to revamp the experience and receiving excellent support from the local hospitality network." The free family event takes places on Wednesday 27th July, Wednesday 3rd August, Wednesday 10th August and Wednesday 24th August from 6pm til 10pm. Other entertainment confirmed is The Chicken Soup Choir on the 24th of August plus cover bands The Shakers also on the 24th of August and Loose Chippings on the 3rd of August. Everyone is invited to see the Worshipful Mayor of Bournemouth cut the ribbon this Wednesday at 6.30pm near the band stand. Bournemouth is warming up nicely for a fantastic summer.
