Rajni Shah - The Awkward Position/Rotozaza - Ooff/ Nikki Tomlinson - Saw/Sor/Soar - T549171879The Awkward Position - By turns beautiful, subtle and horribly awkward, The Awkward Position takes a fresh look at that age-old question, what are we doing here? Except that this is no abstract philosophical inquiry: by "here", Rajni means right here, in the theatre, with an audience, performers, a technician, and a director. Erupting unexpectedly into beautiful, entangled dance, or into exquisite, tense stillness, the Awkward Position may be the most insightful and inexplicably moving theatre you see this year. Ooff - With Ooff, rotozaza introduces a choreographic element into their groundbreaking TOCAR (Theatre of Command and Response) project. A grid on the ground, two speakers, a girl and some objects. Two unrehearsed guest performers (different every night) who agree to carry out instructions for action given to them by pre-recorded voices. 'Stand on D4 and grab whoever walks past you'. With them is performer Silvia Mercuriali - who IS rehearsed. The fact the two guests really don't have a clue what's coming next brings an openness which keeps us glued to the action. Saw/Sore/Soar - A visceral solo emerging from a struggle to beak habits and make space for the new. Saw/Sore/Soar is motivated by thoughts and emotions around the notion of change - How does change happen? How much is willed, and how much happens of its own accord?Performer Yvonne Naughton (The Awkward Position). Performer Dimitris Papakyriazis (The Awkward Position). Performer Sally Marie (The Awkward Position). Performer Rajni Shah (The Awkward Position). Director Rajni Shah (The Awkward Position). Performer Silvia Mercuriali (Ooff - + 2 guests).
