Scottish Dance Theatre - Yama/Kingdom

Work:: Scottish Dance Theatre (S0994693462)

Production:: Yama/Kingdom (T1987030428)

Two compelling world premieres from international choreographers performed by Scottish Dance Theatre's exceptional dancers. Expect passion, energy and boundary-pushing dance. Yama - Damien Jalet has been responsible for some of the most revered productions of the last 10 years, including Babel (Laurence Olivier award 2011) and work with Akram Khan, Sidi Larbi Chekaoiu, and a radical re-staging of Bolero with Marina Abramovich at the Paris Opera. In a UK first, Jalet works with revered whitney- exhibited visual artist Jim Hodges to create Yama. This performance created with the dancers of Scottish dance theatre takes as its starting point the mythology associated with mountains and is a mysterious yet visceral metaphor of collective ascension. Kingdom - Spanish choreographer Jorge Crecis presents his risk-taking, playful Kingdom. This piece isn't about a journey, it is a journey. Starting with 52 bamboo sticks, 120 ropes, the company of 10 dancers are challenged to become a group to effectively transform the raw materials into a 6 metre human shelter. Inspired by Cresis's participation in the Madrid Occupy movement, Kingdom is brutal, delicate, political. Age recommendation 11+
