San Francisco Ballet - Programme Two: Ballo Della Regina/Concerto Grosso/Study in Motion/The Four Temperaments

San Francisco Ballet

Work:: San Francisco Ballet (S096686519)

Production:: Programme Two: Ballo Della Regina/Concerto Grosso/Study in Motion/The Four Temperaments (T02116524850)

America's first professional ballet company and now the third largest ballet company in the USA, San Francisco Ballet continues to push boundaries with cutting-edge new works, while remaining committed to excellence in the classical tradition. The full Company of 69 dancers returns to Sadler's Wells with three programmes which affirm their diverse range and international stature. Artistic Director Helgi Tomasson brings two ballets; 7 for Eight, and Concerto Grosso. As a principal dancer with New York City Ballet, Tomasson was one of the foremost interpreters for Balanchine, who created several roles expressly for him. In turn, Tomasson's Company now dances four of Balanchine's most technically challenging masterpieces. Other highlights include Christopher Wheeldon's neoclassical work Continuum©, Possokhov's abstract whirlwind Study In Motion, the pyrotechnic Pas de Trois from Makarova's staging of Paquita and, on a lighter note, Ratmansky's colourful and often hilarious menagerie of animals, Le Carnaval des Animaux. Music ranges from Vivaldi, Verdi and Tchaikovsky to Camille Saint-Saens and Ligeti.
