Richard Alston Dance Company - Nigredo/No More Ghosts/Body and Soul/Brink

Richard Alston Dance Company

Work:: Richard Alston Dance Company (S901)

Contemporary dance. Richard Alston, Artistic Director of The Place, the UK's leading centre for contemporary dance, is internationally recognised as one of the most influential and inspiring choreographers in British dance.

Production:: Nigredo/No More Ghosts/Body and Soul/Brink (T240346731)

Choreographed by company dancer Darren Ellis, No More Ghosts will have its World Premiere at The Place. The full-company work is set to music for drums and electronica composed and performed by Wayne Walker-Allen. Body and Soul, which will have its London Premiere at The Place, is a new work by RADC rehearsal director and former RADC dancer Martin Lawrance. Set to Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe (op. 48), performed by singer Nicolas Simeha and pianist Jason Ridgway, the piece sees its six dancers engage in fast-paced duets and solos that range from tumultuous to tender. Richard Alston’s Nigredo was created for Brief Candles, a collaboration between RADC and the Society for the Promotion of New Music seen at The Place in 2007. A sequence of intimate and intricate duets for four dancers, the piece is set to a contemporary score for piano composed by Simon Holt and performed by Jason Ridgway. Martin Lawrance’s quirky Brink is also on the programme. Created in 2007, Brink is a sextet set to a recording of Ayuo’s Japanese tango music played on the accordion. By turns playful and sassy, three couples give the traditional dance a contemporary spin.
