Resolution! 2015 - The Ashes: Dance Collective/Ella Mesma Company/The House of Strays
Work:: Resolution! 2015 (S0652924475)
Resolution! is The Place's annual festival of new works presented by a range of diverse emerging dance-artists.
Production:: The Ashes: Dance Collective/Ella Mesma Company/The House of Strays (T803597414)
The Dancing Plague - Under the surface of the skin hides an idea older than time. Parasitic. It waits. It strikes - a frenzy of dance - a body hijacked. Can the dancers keep up? A new work by a new collective, formed of ex Phoenix Dancers: Phil Sanger, Azzurra Ardovini and Josh Wille. Inspired by an epidemic that caused thousands of people to dance until dropping dead of exhaustion or ecstasy, The Dancing Plague is a hard hitting, poignant and at times funny account of a relentless mass hysteria. To a haunting and original score by Caterina McEvoy, the three dancers, joined also by Carrieanne Vivianette, pulse and jerk on bloodied feet towards their own demise. Be infected.
Orixas - Inspired by Afro-Cuban deities to represent love, pursuit, passion, and loss through the voyage of four individuals. Four strong females, four elements and four colours swirl, swoop, saunter and soar together. Orixas is inspired by the stories of four women and four orixas (deities). Oxum, a beautiful goddess of fresh waters who represents sexuality and love. Oya, the hurricane warrior of the underworld, transitions and chaos. Ogun, the god of war, iron, hunting and community. Oxossi, the hunter, shaman and god of nature. Each orixa, and woman, has their own hopes, fears, angers and desires in life and in their relationships.
After the Flood - Three sisters were left after the Great Flood had abated. Unbeknownst to them, their spiralling degeneration into chaos pulls with it a creature from grace. Running time: 100mins
