Rambert Dance Company - Transit/Verge/Anatomica #3/Stand and Stare

Rambert Dance Company

Work:: Rambert Dance Company (S887)

Britain's biggest and most exciting touring dance company who often tour two programmes at a time. Dancing to a mixture of musical styles they provide enormously watchable evenings.
Company Rambert Dance Company

Production:: Transit/Verge/Anatomica #3/Stand and Stare (T01791072437)

Anatomica #3 has been inspired by the concept of the body as an exhibition site - looking at how the human form is perceived in the public eye, through both positive and negative viewpoints. Inspiration is drawn from a variety of sources, including the limitations, vulnerability and glory of the body itself, along with ideas of royalty and celebrity in popular culture. Stand and Stare by Darshan Singh Bhuller, is a gritty and powerful piece that uses the white negative space and the vertical and horizontal lines of artist LS Lowry's work in both the choreography and set design. It is performed to Bartok's dramatically haunting Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion. Transit by Melanie Teall, is inspired by the phenomenon of the planet Venus in transit, Cameron McMillan's intensely sharp Verge is performed to an original electro-acoustic score made up entirely of the dancers' physical sounds. Both pieces feature costume designs by fashion icon Roland Mouret.
