Work:: Mark Morris Dance Group (USA) (S993661504)
The Mark Morris Dance Group was formed in 1980 and gave its first concert in that year in New York. In the following years, the company s touring schedule has steadily expanded to include cities across America and Europe. Once considered the bad boy of the modern dance world, Mark Morris is now an influential and internationally celebrated choreographer whose pieces have become the standard of creativity for a new generation of dancers, choreographers and critics.
Production:: The Nutcracker with a Twist - The Hard Nut (T018448481)
With go-go boots, bouffant hairdos and dancing Barbies, this is a hilarious and deliciously vulgar take on the classic Christmas tale. Transposed to a kitsch 1960's home, where the Christmas tree is plastic, a yule log burns on the TV, the maid has attitude and the party guests do the bump, this is pop culture fantasy come to life. However this is not just pure spoof. Episodes of Noel naughtiness share the spotlight with the tender unfurling of childhood fantasies and first love. Snowflakes, reminiscent of a child's dream of winter, of ice-cream and snowballs, seem to dance in the sky. Featuring the 45-piece Royal Ballet Sinfonia, a chorus and full staging, this is a rare opportunity to see The Hard Nut. Due to its large scale, the show does not tour and has previously been seen in only four cities worldwide. Returning to T. A. Hoffmann's original story, and impeccably faithful to the complete Tchaikovsky score, The Hard Nut is at once a send up of the conventional Russian ballet but also a homage. So if you like you Holiday cheer with a twist, you'll love this.
