Les Primas

Les Primas

Work:: Les Primas (S02091520110)

Production:: (T01919848821)

Where else can you see world class ballet dancers at a pub theatre? Taking a break from a gruelling international tour with Les Ballets Grandivas, Joel Morris, Ian Archer-Watters, Leigh Anderton, Benjamin Williams and friends keep their tutus and pointe shoes firmly on to perform their own take on excerpts from the classics such as Swan Lake, Raymonda and The Nutcracker on the 6 metre square stage of The Rosemary Branch. Joel Morris performed at the rosie last year in between engagements with English National Ballet and The South Africa Ballet Theatre. "Classical ballet is traditionally regarded as a high art form rooted in grand theatres and royal courts to elite audiences. I just love kicking the boundaries, not only by doing it in drag, but by performing on a tiny stage above a pub to a much more intimate audience constantly in danger of being tickled by the feathers on the tutus. The lifts are a bit of a challenge, you have to avoid hitting the lights or getting knocked out on the lighting bars."
