Desert Crossings

This cross-cultural performance is a collaboration between UK-based company State of Emergency and acclaimed contemporary South African choreographer Gregory Maqoma of Vuyani Dance Theatre. Inspired by the similarities between England’s dramatic South West Jurassic coastline and the Skeleton Coast of Namibia, Maqoma’s new work reveals the ways human evolution and the landscape work together to influence our collective memories. Maqoma’s muscular choreography for five dancers, each from markedly different cultural backgrounds, resonates with ancient traditions, belief systems and mythologies, building bridges between two very different continents and sparking new global conversations.
