Refract/Flying Chair for Da Vinci - T1162186038

Refract - A new duet entwining Kathak, Bharata Natyam and Contemporary Dance, in and around an installation of four hanging metal sheets. Images refracted and distorted in the sheeting, reflecting light and echoing sound. Free hanging sheets, swung, twisted and adjusted, altering the dimensions of the space. The molded shape of the sheets ensures a twisted, refracted likeness is reflected to the audience. Flying Chair for Di Vinci - Rotie fuses contemporary dance, new butoh and experimental voice work in an atmospheric and poetic solo exploring transformation in fairytales. An abstract character - old woman/sphinx/child -spins and sways inside the gravity of a dark forest created by stunning film images and strange 'flying' devices. Rotie is Britain’s leading exponent of new butoh and has presented and toured her works in venues and festivals internationally.Choreographer Elizabeth Lea (Refract). Performer Sonia Sabri. Performer Elizabeth Lea (in collaboration with sculptor Laurens C Postma and composer Sarvar Sabri). Choreographer Marie-Gabrielle Rotie (Flying Chair for Da Vinci). Sound Nick Parkin. Lighting Helen Cain.
