Out of Time is a fascinating insight into Colin Dunne’s private world as a dancer rooted in the Irish step dance tradition. In his first solo show, Dunne takes a step back from the frenetic world of competitive and commercial Irish dance in which he is internationally acclaimed to offer a contemporary perspective on the art form. Collaborating with sound engineer Fionán de Barra, Dunne creates a hauntingly evocative soundscape, mixing percussive dance with live sound processing. He is accompanied on stage by a projected filmic chorus of traditional dancers, including himself at ten years old. Intimate, personal and provocative, Out of Time looks to the past for simple beginnings as Dunne playfully renegotiates his relationship with a tradition that has shaped his life. Out of Time premiered at Glór Theatre, Ireland in January 2008. Dunne has previously performed at the Barbican in Fabulous Beast’s production of The Bull (bite07), a self-parodying role which earned him a Spotlight Award, Male Artist (Modern) nomination from the National Dance Awards Critics’ Circle. Running time 60mins with no interval.
