Frederick Ashton's The Two Pigeons is romantic ballet at its most charming. Based on a fable by La Fontaine, it tells the story of young love tempted to stray, and of homecoming and forgiveness. Drawing mesmerising performances from its leads, this is 'heavenly ballet' - The Dancing Times. In contrast Balanchine's Western Symphony brings the Wild West to life with its cowboys and dance-hall girls. Set to the popular folk tunes by Hershy Kay, orchestrator of many hit Broadway shows.
