Birmingham Royal Ballet - Concerto barocco/Five Brahms Waltzes in the Manner of Isadora Duncan/Monotones II/Tweedledum and Tweedledee/Five Tangos

Birmingham Royal Ballet

Work:: Birmingham Royal Ballet (S0697032789)

Company Birmingham Royal Ballet

Production:: Concerto barocco/Five Brahms Waltzes in the Manner of Isadora Duncan/Monotones II/Tweedledum and Tweedledee/Five Tangos (T2093601135)

Concerto barocco - Inspired by the structure and ornamentation of J.S. Bach's Concerto in D Minor, Balanchine reflects the use of two violins in the two ballerina roles. This breathtaking, stylish ballet has become established as one of Balanchine’s masterpieces, with two ballerina roles that will showcase the talents of BRB’s dancers. Five Brahms Waltzes in the manner of Isadora Duncan was last performed by BRB to much critical acclaim in April 2000. Monotones II - An enigmatic classic by one of Britain’s greatest choreographers. Performed by three dancers to the hypnotic music of Satie. Tweedledum and Tweedledee - Popular characters from Lewis Carroll’s Alice books spring hilariously to life; set to music by Percy Grainger. Five Tangos - The Tango has always been associated with the fiery temperament of Latin America. It is a dance of conflict and passion, shaded with a hint of danger. In this ballet, the Dutch choreographer Van Manen combines a sense of Latin flair with pure classicism to create a rich rhythmic sense of dance.
