Details
Almeida Opera stages three cantatas inspired by Monteverdi. Jonathan Dove returns to Almeida Opera with L'altra Euridice, a monodrama for baritone and small baroque ensemble to a text by the Italian fabulist Italo Calvino. Pluto is here to tell his side of the story. Part lecture demonstration, part howl of rage, the God of the Underworld reveals his love for Euridice and the real story behind her abduction. L'altra Euridice is Jonathan Dove's theatre music at its most passionate, dark and lyrical. Baritone Omar Ebrahim, sings Pluto. Stuart Stratford conducts. The Almeida's newly appointed Jerwood Composer in Association, Elena Langer, sets Ovid's Ariadne letter. The evening starts with Stephen Oliver's Waiting, a piece about the cruelties of anticipation.
