Sounds of the South

Sounds of the South

Work:: Sounds of the South (S1296421371)

Be transported to the deep American south as psych-folk artists Megafaun, jazz collective Fight the Big Bull led by Matthew E. White and Frazey Ford - a lead singer with cult Canadian alt-folk trio The Be Good Tanyas - bring the heart and soul of American music to life in this UK premiere. Drawing from the field recordings of acclaimed American folklorist and ethnomusicologist, Alan Lomax - the man Dylan credits with introducing him to folk music - Sounds of the South will see the 14 piece ensemble reinterpret Lomax's ground breaking 1961 six LP release Sounds Of The South - A Musical Journey From The Georgia Sea Islands To The Mississippi Delta Recorded In The Field By Alan Lomax. Gathered during a two-year mission into the American southeast, these field recordings capture the most traditional of American sounds - gospel, blues, country, folk and bluegrass. Archived in the vaults of the National Library of Congress, this collection has since been hailed as the most important compilation of American folk music ever compiled, and has been sampled from artists as varied as Bruce Springsteen and Moby.
