Prom 8 - Russian Romance and Icelandic Elements

Prom 8

Work:: Prom 8 (S370)

Part of the BBC Proms.

Production:: Russian Romance and Icelandic Elements (T998990153)

The worlds of classical and film music come together in this concert by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor Dalia Stasevska. Rachmaninov's passionate Piano Concerto No. 2 may have been written for the concert hall, but it had a successful second life on screen in films including Brief Encounter and The Seven Year Itch. It is performed along with a mesmeric excerpt from Golden Globe-winner Jóhann Jóhannsson's score for The Miners' Hymns, Tchaikovsky's cinematic, Shakespeare-inspired Romeo and Juliet overture and a world premiere from Oscar-winning Joker composer Hildur Guðnadóttir.
