Prom 67 - Nicola Benedetti Performs Wynton Marsalis

Prom 67

Work:: Prom 67 (S6004)

Part of the BBC Proms.

Production:: Nicola Benedetti Performs Wynton Marsalis (T736950761)

Rhythm - the strut of the tango, the explosive mambo, propulsive jigs and reels, even the swell of the sea - sets the pulse of this concert racing. Joining the Royal Scottish National Orchestra under Music Director Thomas Sondergard, and fresh from her Grammy-winning recording, Nicola Benedetti brings Wynton Marsalis's Violin Concerto to the Proms for the first time, with its electrifying fusion of the American bandleader's jazz influences and the Scottish folk music of the violinist's homeland. American jazz is also the starting point for the technicoloured brilliance of Bernstein's West Side Story and the sardonic First Suite from Thomas Adès's scandalous opera Powder Her Face.
