Bach's Mass in B minor was the composer's last major work: the apotheosis of an entire career. Monumental in size and scope, a musical statement of faith that takes listeners from penitence and prayer to redemption and ecstatic rejoicing, it sits alongside Mozart's Requiem, Beethoven's Missa solemnis and Bach's own Passions as one of the greatest sacred works in the repertoire. Award-winning conductor John Butt, whose all-Bach Prom in 2019 was hailed as ‘astonishing', directs the period-instrument Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and a team of leading soloists.
