Prom 55 - BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra

Prom 55

Work:: Prom 55 (S5992)

Part of the BBC Proms.

Production:: BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (T0654087545)

Edinburgh-born Donald Runnicles returns with the BBC Scottish SO, of which he becomes Chief Conductor this autumn. Richard Strauss's outsize orchestral hymn to domestic harmony not only reveals the secrets of the marital bedroom but throws in both the baby and the bathwater too. Radio 3 New Generation Artist Shai Wosner - who made his Proms debut in 2003 playing Mozart's Concerto for three pianos with Saleem Abboud Ashkar (Prom 69) alongside Daniel Barenboim and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra (Prom 48, Prom 49 & Prom 50) - returns to make his solo debut in Mozart's turbulently clouded D minor Concerto. And John Adams's 1996 teaser pays tribute to the wit and wisdom of the Russian musical polymath Nicolas Slonimsky. Approx finish time: 21:40. Broadcast Live on BBC Radio 3.
