The BBC Philharmonic returns with Chief Conductor Gianandrea Noseda to contrast the music of Italy and Germany. Canadian violinist James Ehnes, who has recorded all three of Bruch's violin concertos, is the soloist in the composer's most enduring contribution to the repertoire, and Sarah Tynan appears in the concluding lullaby to the Blessed Virgin Mary of Luigi Dallapiccola's ambitious Partita, the work which established the composer's international reputation. Schumann's Fourth Symphony, continuing our complete cycle in the bicentenary of the composer's birth, constitutes one of the most exhilarating works in the Romantic repertoire.
