Mark Lockheart came on the scene with Loose Tubes and soon started leading his own bands. He was a founder member of Polar Bear, almost a veteran among his young colleagues, and is firmly established as one of Britain’s finest contemporary jazz musicians. 2009 has already been an eventful year with a superb new band and their CD In Deep which is sure to be one of the jazz albums of the year. His tunes are highly melodic and varied and there is a power, confidence and commitment of the group which will satisfy many jazz enthusiasts.Performer Mark Lockheart (saxes). Mark Lockheart (on stage 8pm) - one of the most creative musicians on the current British music scene. A saxophonist and composer, his work crosses the boundaries of the jazz, new music and folk worlds. One of the most prominent members of the Loose Tubes generation Mark generation Mark has co-led Perfect Houseplants since 1992. The music he wrote during his spell as artist in residence with the NDR Big Band in Germany, one of Europe’s finest jazz orchestras, will be at the heart of this concert. Hot House Big Band (on stage 9.30pm) - until recently known as the East Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra, is currently among the UKs finest big bands. In the last twelve months they’ve played The London Jazz Festival, represented the UK at the last IAJE conference in Toronto, featured in "Derby Jazz Week The Movie" and worked with Tony Kofi, Alex Wilson, Alan Barnes and now Mark Lockheart.Performer Mark Lockheart (saxes).
