Kate Dimbleby archiveKate's singing career started at the age of 15 when she spent two years singing with the all-women barber shop group 'The City Charmers', resulting in a wealth of attention which included appearing in the 1990 LWT Arts Festival and winning Sky TV's Star Search. On leaving school Kate began her jazz apprenticeship singing in bars an jazz clubs around Bologna and London until she was 19, when she returned to education, studying English at Birmingham University. Her studies, however, were increasingly fitting around an escalating demand for her singing, including regular spots at Birmingham's main jazz clubs, including 'Ronnie Scott's' and regular trips down to London to take up such invitations as singing with the Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra in Regents Park in 1996 and enjoying regular spots at Lenny Beige's infamous 'Regency Rooms', at 'Madame Jo Jo's' and at the likes of 'L'Odeon', 'Quaglino's' and 'Mezzo'.

Songbirds - T0619798589

If you had a song, what would it be? The singing daughter of Britain's broadcasting family of voices explores her legacy, weaving soulful a cappella songs with stories of singing with Bobby McFerrin, stepping out of Peggy Lee's shadow and listening to find the song in everyone. Songbirds weaves songs from Kate's critically acclaimed original a cappella album with a personal story, using a vocal looper to layer her voice and interact directly with her audience. The result is a unique and engaging audience experience, different at each performance.Director Katy Carmichael (in association with Theatre Damfino).
