Jerry Dammers - Jerry Dammers' Spatial A.K.A Orchestra (NNF2012)

Work:: Jerry Dammers (S246390826)

Production:: Jerry Dammers' Spatial A.K.A Orchestra (NNF2012) (T01508364537)

A highly acclaimed tour, appearances on Jools Holland, at Glastonbury and The Barbican... now Jerry Dammers (founder of The Specials and 2 Tone) brings his twenty-piece orchestra to Norwich for the first time. Dammers' funk, dub, jungle or dubstep-influenced arrangements of his selections from cosmic jazz to reggae, from exotica to library music, form backdrops for some of the country's finest jazz improvisers. Originally a tribute to space jazz maverick Sun Ra, the orchestra has expanded its repertoire, and on the 50th anniversary year of Jamaican independence, do not be surprised if some ska and reggae roots show through, or by updates of a couple of Dammers' own tunes, such as Ghost Town (now Ghost Planet). Legendary Jamaican trombonist Rico (who played with The Specials) will guest.
Performer Zoe Rahman (piano)
Performer Jason Yarde
Performer Denys Baptiste
Performer Nathaniel Facey
Performer Shabaka Hutchings (saxes)
Performer Finn Peters (flute)
Performer Anthony Joseph (vocals)
Performer Francine Luce (vocals)
