Details
Both Jane Austen and the French novelist Colette were passionate musicians as well as writes - Jane Austen a keen domestic keyboard player, and Colette a flamboyant music-hall entertainer. The music of the first half of this special evening comes from Jane Austen's personal collection of works she knew well - charming songs by Haydn, Storace, Dibden and Gluck and piano music by Cramer - interspersed with excerpts from her novels. The second half is devoted to Colette's vivid pen portraits of her much admired friends Ravel, Debussy and Poulenc. Colette also created the story of Gigi and the evening includes songs from this delightful musical.
