Chopin in the Caribbean archiveHow would Chopin's music sound if he had been born in the Caribbean? A vital influence on the ebullient classical music scene of the 19th-century Antill, Chopin inspired several generations of composers from Haiti to Curacao, including the so-called 'Chopin of the Caribbean' himself, the Cuban Ernesto Lecuona. Illustrious pianists Clara Rodr?guez and Gustavo Corrales Romero join forces to pay tribute to the 2017 anniversaries of two respective compatriot figureheads of this rich legacy of 19th-century Caribbean composers: the Cuban Manuel Saumell and from the Caribbean mainland the Venezuelan Teresa Carre?o. Leading ambassadors of this repertoire, they present a colourful programme blending Romantic lyricism with toe-tapping rhythms.
