T0685819814Delius sketched his symphonic poem On the Mountains while on a walking holiday with Grieg near Bergen. The opening movement of Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto is full of tension and drama. The slow movement is a lyrical dialogue between the soloist and woodwinds, while the vivacious finale is a rondo, punctuated with quicksilver piano cadenzas. Strauss' opulent yet tongue in cheek portrait of himself as the hero of the title shows the composer bursting with confidence in his own powers.
