BBC Concert Orchestra - Classical Contrasts

BBC Concert Orchestra

Work:: BBC Concert Orchestra (S01472238120)

The BBC Concert Orchestra is one of the country s most versatile ensembles. For more than half a century it has been the house orchestra for BBC Radio 2 s Friday Night is Music Night and gives regular broadcasts on BBC Radio 3. Its work can be heard on soundtracks to many BBC TV programmes including Blue Planet, Frozen Planet and Human Planet.

Production:: Classical Contrasts (T1892029922)

This concert showcases two very different musical portraits of the English landscape. Will Todd's urbane, jazz-infused Concerto for Emma takes us on a cosmopolitan rollercoaster ride through funk, showtime, swing and waltz. Paul Reade's Suite from the Victorian Kitchen Garden, written for the BBC series, expresses nostalgia for a purer, simpler, rural way of life. The opening and closing works highlight the Orchestra's dexterity and versatility. Ravel's colourful Le tombeau de Couperin is a tribute to 18th century music and a memorial to the First World War. Dvorak's dramatic Seventh Symphony builds to a highly charged finale that is as exciting as any the BBC Concert Orchestra plays.
Conductor Jaime Martin
