A Child of Our Time - 70th Anniversary Concert
Work:: A Child of Our Time (S1588595663)
Written at the beginning of the Second World War, the oratorio is a response to a real incident: the shooting of a Nazi official in 1938 by a desperate young Polish Jew, which triggered terrible retribution. While Tippett draws from the tradition of Bach's Passions, he uses Negro spirituals to highlight key moments of emotional tension.
Production:: 70th Anniversary Concert (T1763869075)
One of Britain's most celebrated modern composers, Tippett's moving oratorio is performed by the London Concert Choir and the City of London Sinfonia.
