Jeremy, Mark, Steve and Reece were introduced via mutual friends whilst studying in Wakefield and Leeds. Discovering they all had a penchant for dark humour and horror films, they began writing together in 1994. 'The League Of Gentlemen was created in 1995, with a show at London s Cockpit Theatre, and followed by a weekly showcase at the Canal Café in London s Little Venice. The quartet took the show to Edinburgh s Fringe Festival in 1996 and gained encouraging press reviews. They returned the following year to scoop the prestigious Perrier Award. A season at Her Majesty s Theatre, Haymarket, London followed, spawning a 6-part series for Radio 4, entitled On The Town With The League Of Gentlemen. The show picked up the Sony Silver Award in 1998, and they were granted a series for BBC2. With a regular 2.5 million viewers, and a second series under their belts. The League of Gentlemen website.
