There is very little to say about absolutely realistic paintings, after many years working in situ and with sketchbooks in a landscape, I now work with camera as my sketchbook and work from my photographs back in may studio. I try to keep the paintings as calm and static as possible, as actionless paintings are more readily approachable in a contemplative fashion. I am very aware, being English, of continuing in the tradition of English landscape painting.
