The Giant Killers is a triumph of storytelling. Quick moving, emotive and a celebration of the underdog. The politics and injustice of the time are presented lightly but this makes them all more powerful. The romance spans the years before a tragedy which almost breaks the team. The four actors are faultless portraying the whole town and three football matches with total believability. And it’s a masterclass in efficiently shuffling a few boxes to define new spaces. Quality period costume completes the visual strength, but it’s the gutsy, passionate acting that made me cheer for The Giant Killers!
