The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

This play has been touring for some time, and recenttly finished in London, so  I was curious (get it ) to see if it was still hitting as hard as when I last saw it.

It is immensely hard work for a play like this to reach out to the audience in the Bristol Hippodrome - nothing wrong with the audience (except for the noisy two sat next to us who decided to have a picnic), but the space is very large and the seating is set back so there's a lot of space bweteen the action and the viewers.

One advantage you do get is to easily see the fabulous set in all its glory - it is an amazing structure that plays a huge part in the success of the production. And yes, this was a success with all the freshness and power I had seen before and a truly impressive central performance from Scott Reid.

Although the central character carries much of the story it simply wouldn't work without a strong supporting cast secure in their multiple roles and choreography ... oh, and the cutest of puppies and a mighty handsome rat.

An excellent all-round performance of a really clever and thought provoking play and an example of how to tour a technically advanced piece of theatre without glitches!

If you haven't seen the play yet then I would urge you to go along, if you have, then go see it again, it is still a great piece of theatre!
