What a visually sumptuous production. So many beautiful costumes and a set that works well without getting in the way and given some effective lighting. The orchestra sound is rich and clear and the whole show has an attention to detail that ensures whether this is the first time, or twentieth time you have seen Swan Lake, you will come away impressed.
Of course, it is really all down to the dancing and last night we were treated to a magnificent spectacle. Personally, a classical ballet is made or broken by the corps de ballet and this show had me grinning throughout. I have rarely enjoyed such precision and discipline, it was truly a moving experience. The main principles were stunning, Momoko Hirata danced a sublime Odette against a sensitively danced Siegfried from Mathias Dingman and a suitably supportive Benno from Gus Payne.
What a wonderful evening of classical ballet so beautifully crafted by Peter Wright and Galina Samsova. My thanks to the whole company and I look forward to your next visit to Plymouth.
