French jazz musician and erstwhile sex symbol Sacha Distel
(website) will make his British theatre debut as Billy Flynn in
Chicago at the
Adelphi from 18 September. Nephew of bandleader, Ray Ventura, Distel was born in Paris. At 18 his uncle introduced him to the jazz scene in Manhattan and Harlem, where he became close friends with Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson, Sarah Vaughan and Stan Getz. His acting career includes credits in a number of French films and an appearance as the French lover in the Noel Coward play "Fallen Angels" with Joan Collins and Susannah York.An all-round entertainer Distel s career has included Royal Variety performances, the Legion D'Honneur and the hit song "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head".
