I first saw Miss Saigon a long time ago and was seriously unimpressed - but it was a very diferent matter when I saw the revived version in London 3 years ago - a fabulous night out. So, when coming to this I so wanted it to be the 'new' rather than the 'old' experience - happy to report that it was. No compromises here for te fact that they are touring still a large cast and all the effects. Thank you!
Sooha Kim is a beautiful Kim, a really thoughtful performance that endears the charadter to you immediately. She is offset by a well pitched Chris from Ashley Gilmour and a truly believable John from Ryan O'Gorman. Red Concepcion's Engineer commands the stage even though it lacked some of the threat I have seen before he still bowled the audience over - one hell of a part given with gusto and style!
A very disciplined performance overall from a hugely competent cast - I love looking off into the upstage, offline corners while the action is going on and never once caught any slacking - full-on acting all the time, it makes a huge diference to the overall effect.
Small gripe - yet again, the sound balance started completely wrong and I barely caught any of the words in the opening number leaving me worried for the rest ofthe show - fortunately either the sound people or my ears sorted it out soon after.
A brilliant night out, leaving the theatre I heard more than one group discussing whether they could come back and see it again before it moved on - now there is a recommendation!
