Nineteen years after it first hit the stage Matthew Bourne's version of Swan Lake is still as exciting and enjoyable as ever. Playing to a packed Bristol Hippodrome this excellent and well-drilled cast gave a terrific performance and trully wowed us all. I could positively feel the pleasure welling up around me as the show went on.
This really is a great show with super choreography and a level of direction and detail seen often in plays but very rarely in dance. The interpretation may not be to everyone's liking but to judge by the difficulty in getting a ticket it pleases many. It certainly pleases me.
The cast do an excellent job and convey a great story with impressive subtlety. The comedy is genuinely laugh out loud, the dancing sublime and the overall experience not to be missed. A 20th Anniversary tour next year? I wonder .....
